Sketch Anything was built by a parent, for their own children first. The problem was always the same: finding a picture that was good enough to draw meant handing over a phone and hoping the search stayed where it should, and what came back was usually too dark, too detailed or too small to be any use with a pencil.

So the app does the finding, and then it gets out of the way. Type what you want to draw, and nine image sources answer at once, with Safe Search on wherever a source offers it. Pick a picture and either lock it on the screen to copy by eye in Draw Mode, or lay it over the camera and trace it straight onto paper in Trace Mode. When the picture you want does not exist, Create with AI makes it.

That is the whole app. There is no feed, nothing to scroll, and nothing that goes faster the longer you stay. A drawing session ends when the drawing is done.

Three rules

Everything in the app is decided by these, and they are the reason some obvious features are not here.

  • Safe by default, not by setting

Safe Search is always on and there is no switch for it. There are no public profiles, no comments and no messaging, so there is nobody in the app for a child to talk to.

  • The pictures belong to the people who made them

Every result keeps its source and its licence and links back to the original, and a picture stays credited once it is saved. A rights holder can ask us to take one out.

  • No dark patterns

No ads over the canvas, no streaks to keep, no countdown on a price. Searching, saving, Draw Mode and Trace Mode are free, and cancelling Pro takes one tap in the store.

Who makes it

Sketch Anything is made by Implicit Labs, Inc. — a small, independent outfit. There is no advertising business behind the app and no data to sell, which is why the only thing it asks of you is whether you want Pro.

You can read what the app stores in the privacy policy, every category of it laid out in the data use policy, what it will and will not do for children on the kids safety page, and where the pictures come from on the image sources page.

Anything else, ask: send us a message or write to [email protected].

Draw the thing you were thinking of

Search it, save it, then draw it on the screen or trace it onto paper. All of that is free.
